As we approach the end of another year, I’ve been spending a lot of time in reflection, on just how much change, courage, and quiet growth I’ve witnessed in my clients and community. If you’re reading this, you are part of that story. Thank you for letting me walk alongside you in the messy middle, the pauses, the pivots, the tears, the deep breaths, and the “I didn’t think I could do that, but I did” moments.
Our brains are wired to scan for problems, future worries, and what still needs to be fixed. They’re not wired to naturally celebrate progress or self-compassion. So before we rush into “new year, new goals,” I want to offer something gentler, a simple, grounding reflection ritual to help you honor how far you’ve actually come.
A Three-Part Year-End Reflection Ritual
You don’t need hours, a dedicated journal, or the perfect mindset. All you need is a few minutes, some curiosity, and a willingness to be kind to yourself.
1. Look at a photo from last December.
Find a picture of yourself from around this time last year and ask:
- What was happening in my life then?
- How did I feel emotionally and physically?
- What was I bracing for or worrying about?
Then ask:
- Do I feel different today?
- Did the things I worried about come true?
Often, we realize our fears never fully materialized. Other times, even if hard things did happen, we also discover our capacity to make it through. Both are powerful.
2. Notice the blessings in disguise.
Think back to something that felt uncomfortable or overwhelming at the time. Now zoom out:
- Did it redirect you toward something better?
- Did it help you set a boundary?
- Did it clarify what you will or won’t tolerate moving forward?
Not every hard thing has to be reframed as “good,” but you can honor how life sometimes reroutes us, and how resilient you truly are.
3. Do a “wins by month” scan.
Open your calendar from this past year and write down one win per month in any category:
- Personal growth: asking for help, saying yes, saying no
- Relationships: connection, boundaries honored
- Work: projects completed, challenges navigated, risks taken
- Health & nervous system: rest, routines, breathing space
- Joy & play: moments of peace, adventure, or presence
Let them be small. Tiny victories count more than you think.
When you map out your year this way, you send your nervous system a message it rarely gets:
I am growing. I am learning. I am more resourced than I realize.
From My Heart to Yours
Whether we worked together 1:1, you joined a group program, attended an event, or quietly read my emails in the background of your very full life, I am deeply grateful for you.
You remind me daily that humans are resilient, healing isn’t linear, and small shifts in awareness can create meaningful change over time. Watching your growth this year has been one of my greatest joys.
As we move into the holiday season, my wish for you is simple:
- Moments of real rest
- Glimmers of joy that land in your body
- Compassion for who you’ve been
- A gentle curiosity about who you’re becoming
Take a breath.
Place a hand on your heart if that feels okay.
You made it through another year. That alone is extraordinary.
Thank you for being here.
